BENJAMIN KERSEY - MUSIC DIRECTOR

RESUME

Benjamin Kersey is a Franco-Ontarian music director and pianist known for his stylistic versatility within theatre and classical music, whose playing has been described as “absolutely wonderful, both musically and technically.”

Passionate about new Canadian works, he has had the pleasure of working on musicals by Britta Johnson and collaborators Sara Farb, Anika Johnson and Nick Green, as well as shows by Scott Christian & Lezlie Wade; Landon Doak & Dillan Chiblow; Ted Dykstra & Steven Mayoff; Ben Elliott & Fatuma Adar; Aaron Jan & alaska B.; Diane Leah, W. Joe Matheson & Louise Pitre; Adam Sakiyama & Kat Sandler; and Suzy Wilde & Rose Napoli, among others. Recent credits include Hadestown, Joseph…, & Juliet (Mirvish); Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Words of War (Stratford); My Fair Lady, Kabarett, Cotton Club (Shaw); Silent Screen, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (National Ballet); Procession, Emma Bovary (National Ballet/NAC); Kelly v. Kelly, Retold, Take the Moment (Musical Stage); Killy Willy (Toronto Fringe/Second City); Meat, Enchanting, Jesus Christ Superstar (Sheridan); Dion (Coal Mine); Sister Act (Stage West Calgary); Annie (YES Theatre); Chris Mrs. (Boldly); Sondheim’s Follies in Concert (Koerner Hall); as well as cabaret acts across Ontario and NYC. 

Benjamin is also proud of his educational work at institutions such as Sheridan College, Randolph College, Toronto Metropolitan University, and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts. He is frequently asked to come in as a vocal/instrumental coach and accompanist, and work with high school and post-secondary students. He also offers private coaching, teaching musical theatre song interpretation, to many established and emerging performers in Toronto. 

Benjamin is a two-time Dora nominee and recipient of the ARTES scholarship, an award for Franco-Ontarian artists. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with double majors in Classical Piano and French Literature and a past RBC Apprentice at Musical Stage. He is proud to be a member of the AFM and to be represented by Talent House, and is forever thankful to those who have helped shape his artistry.
